… goes humanity?

Who knows.
The iNYT reported that a study by the University of Leeds, stretching over 20 years and covering more than 2000 trees, has detected that the today’s trees absorb only 50% of the carbon dioxide that they used to digest as little as twenty years ago.

They attributed the decline to … overconsumption (due to oversupply), causing the biological system (=a tree) to deliriously live beyond its design limits and, ultimatily, exhausting itself, wearing quickly and becoming burned up before its natural old age.

It has a familiar ring to it, doesn’t it? And, if our interpretation of nature’s basic mechanisms and reflexes holds, it bodes ill for humans! No, not necessarily for those in the lush Amazon region, but certainly for those in the lush western civilisations!
